McCauls makes first Manchester city move with housing development at New Islington

04 Jun 2013

McCaul Developments has made its first move into the Manchester City Centre market with the unveiling of a prestigious housing development at the New Islington regeneration scheme.

The family-owned business, based in Astley, said Phase One of the development, which includes 23 apartments and six town houses at The Point in New Islington, will be ready for release in August.

McCauls has submitted plans for Phase Two of the £15m scheme as the company steps up its development plans for in and around Manchester and the North West.

Prices start from £110,000 for a one-bedroom apartment and McCauls has secured approval for the government-backed ‘Help to Buy’ scheme. Prospective buyers may be eligible to apply for the scheme which enables first-time buyers and existing homeowners to buy a property with a five per cent deposit and up to a 20 per cent equity loan.

McCauls bought The Point from Urban Splash in 2012. The development, which was designed by renowned architect and Chairman of the Civic Trust Awards, David Prichard, is in partnership with New East Manchester and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) through the Get Britain Building Scheme.

The luxury properties feature many unique designs and all are spacious with a selected few having roof top gardens overlooking the city and the new marina. All of the apartments and houses have larger than average kitchens and bathrooms and plenty of storage and light.

Sean McCaul, Director at McCauls, said: “The development will provide contemporary and high spec homes in what is quickly becoming one of the most distinctive and diverse neighbourhoods in Manchester.  New Islington is a fantastic scheme in a stunning waterside location which is attractive to young professionals, couples and families.

“Furthermore, we are delighted to receive Help to Buy approval for The Point. The new government scheme will provide a much-needed shot in the arm for the house building sector and offers an excellent incentive for people to get onto and move up the property ladder.”

The McCaul name first entered the property development market in 1955 when Joe and Jack McCaul joined forces with Eric Ashton to form Ashton and McCaul.

The family name was continued by Joe’s three sons who worked separately in the house building sector.  However the brothers, who together have more than 80 years of experience in business, decided to come together and build on the McCaul reputation of building quality homes and improving local communities.

McCauls has a number of developments in the pipeline including housing developments in Astley, Manchester and St Helens.

Sean says McCauls differentiates itself from the competition through high-quality design and finishing which has earned the family an excellent reputation across the North West.

The company employs 13 people and has ambitious plans to become a £10m turnover business in the next two years.

McCauls will officially launch The Point at the end of July.

McCauls has been advised by a team of lawyers led by Stephen Lintott, Head of Real Estate at law firm Pannone. Stephen said: “We are delighted to work with McCauls on such a great project. Having advised on the initial site acquisition and also on the agreements for McCauls’ Get Britain Building Funding, we very much look forward to our ongoing work on the project progresses.”
