Dentons' Financial Markets and Commercial Disputes Group has been strengthened by the arrival of the Banking and Finance Litigation group from Matthew Arnold and Baldwin. The team of 11 partners, 34 associates and 30 paralegals, led by Steven Mills and Clare Stothard, is predominantly focussed on financial litigation and investigations work for major banks. They have experience of handling complex disputes for investment and retail banks and other financial institutions. They also cover disputes involving investment products, mis-selling, derivatives, fraud and asset recoveries, investigations, compliance and regulatory reviews.
The team will remain at its base in Watford and will be part of the single integrated Financial Markets and Commercial Disputes Group across the London, Watford and Milton Keynes offices led by Richard Caird.

Steven Mills is a partner in the Financial Markets and Commercial Disputes practice in Dentons' Watford office. He is ranked by Chambers as a “Band 1” lawyer for banking litigation. In both Chambers and Partners and The Legal 500, he has consistently been recognised as a "leader in his field". Steven has significant trial and mediation experience and acts in a wide range of financial disputes relating to investment and retail banking products and issues over security and enforcement. He also advises on investigations and regulatory reviews, market misconduct, misselling and breaches of banks’ controls and systems. Steven has been the relationship partner for several of the largest banking clients.
Clare Stothard is a partner in the Financial Markets and Commercial Disputes practice in Dentons' Watford office She is experienced in all aspects of investment and retail banking litigation, regulatory compliance and investigations. In recent years her particular focus has been on litigation relating to the misselling of derivatives and she has taken the lead role for one particular financial institution. Clare has been the relationship partner for several of the largest banking clients and has been on several secondments to major banks. She has been consistently recommended in the legal directories over the past decade.
Roger McCourt is a partner in the Financial Markets and Commercial Disputes practice in Dentons' Watford office. Roger has significant experience dealing with issues for his clients in the financial services sector including operational disputes, complex recoveries, investment disputes, mortgage fraud, professional negligence, asset-based finance, fraud and alternative dispute resolution. As well as from his extensive experience working in this sector, Roger has gained a deep understanding of the client perspective and commercial drivers from his time on secondment to two major UK banks during his career.
Martin Roderick is a partner in the Financial Markets and Commercial Disputes practice in Dentons' Watford office. He has extensive experience in acting for bank and manufacturer owned asset finance companies in leasing and hire-purchase disputes, including fraud claims, asset protection and delivery up, dual financing and other title disputes, Consumer Credit Act issues, innocent purchaser claims, and disputes with dealers, suppliers and brokers. He also acts for banks, both as claimant and defendant, on a wide variety of retail banking claims including frauds and breach of mandate claims, those relating to the Consumer Credit Act, financial mis-selling claims, and claims based on account handling and system errors.
Kerry Talbot is a partner in the Financial Markets and Commercial Disputes practice in Dentons' Watford office. She acts for a range of financial institutions, including banks and payment service providers. Kerry deals with a wide range of complex retail, business and investment banking disputes, including defended recovery and possession claims involving allegations or misrepresentation, fraud and breach of mandate, professional negligence claims, as well as the misselling of various financial products including derivatives
Charny Sanghera is a partner in the Financial Markets and Commercial Disputes practice in Dentons' Watford office. She focuses on asset-based lending litigation and general finance litigation. Her clients are primarily banks and asset-based lenders, but she also acts for other financial institutions and corporate clients. Charny advises clients in relation to high-value complex disputes, fraud and conspiracy, large- scale recoveries, breaches of facility, guarantee and indemnity claims, credit insurance and general issues affecting banks, invoice discounters and factors.
Jackie Hanlon is a partner in the Financial Markets and Commercial Disputes practice in Dentons' Watford office and heads the Volume Recoveries team. She has over 25 years’ experience of acting for major banks, building societies, financial institutions and third party servicing companies in all aspects of secured, unsecured and asset finance recoveries. Jackie represents a variety of banks and financial institutions in both the prime and non-status markets.
Carolyn Jones is a partner in the Financial Markets and Commercial Disputes practice in Dentons' Watford office. She deals with many aspects of contentious and non-contentious work, including corporate and personal insolvency, advising insolvency practitioners, accountants, banks and other commercial organizations, company directors and private individuals. She has extensive experience in bank remediation. Carolyn has a strong interest in professional practices, retail problems, in solvent schemes/restructurings and also in cross-border work.
Mark Tempest is a partner in the Financial Markets and Commercial Disputes practice in Dentons' Watford office. He has worked exclusively in restructuring and recovery for 13 years and advises on all aspects of insolvency, including corporate recovery and restructuring, personal insolvency, fixed charge/LPA receiverships and company directors’ disqualification. Mark acts for all stakeholders, including major lenders, advising on non-performing accounts and reviewing security, enforcement options and refinance solutions. He also acts for leading insolvency practitioners on formal insolvency processes and turnarounds, including advising on business sales and court action to recover assets, and for fixed charge/LPA receivers on all aspects of their appointment, including their powers and duties/liabilities to third parties
Timothy Constable is a partner in the Financial Markets and Commercial Disputes practice in Dentons' Watford office. He is a commercial litigator and CEDR accredited mediator. Tim resolves complex commercial disputes by negotiation, mediation, arbitration or litigation. He focuses on disputes involving commercial contracts, professional indemnity, commercial fraud and corruption, product liability, corporate disputes and commercial agency related matters. He also has extensive experience in freezing and search and seizure orders. Many of his cases involve an international element.
William (Bill) Ramsey is a partner in the Real Estate practice in the Dentons' Watford office. Bill’s team focuses on the recovery of distressed real estate on behalf of banks, receivers, administrators and liquidators and insolvency-related real estate advice including rectification of title defects. Bill is an associate member of NARA (Association for Property & Fixed Charge Receivers).
