Wragge Lawrence Graham & Co (WLG) has advised BGF Ventures on its investment into Gousto, the recipe box delivery company.
WLG's Richard Goold, a corporate partner and co-chair of the firm's Tech sector team, led the transaction, with assistance from fellow corporate specialist, principal associate Sam Brown.
The multi-million pound investment is the first for BGF Ventures - BGF's new £200m fund for early stage technology companies - since it was established in the autumn of this year. BGF Ventures led the funding round which raised £9m in total and included backing from Gousto's existing investors MMC Ventures, Unilever Ventures and the Angel CoFund.
Richard Goold said: "We've had the pleasure of advising BGF on many of their investments since they launched in 2011, and BGF Ventures from its recent inception in 2015.
"This investment is a great example of BGF Venture's commitment to driving innovation forward in the UK. Being able to support and help Simon Calver and the team accomplish their goals through the legal advice we provide is always exciting and something we hope to continue to do for the foreseeable future."
Simon Calver, BGF Ventures, commented: "This is a really exciting first investment for us since we established our venture capital fund back in the autumn.
"Richard and the WLG team genuinely understand our business and because of this, were integral to the success of this transaction. They've taken the time to get to know us and are very much in tune with our needs and the direction we're keen to head. I enjoy working with them."
BGF was established in 2011 to help Britain's growing smaller and medium sized businesses. Backed by five of the UK's main banking groups - Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, RBS and Standard Chartered - BGF is an independent company with up to £2.5bn with which to make long-term equity investments.
