Roschier acts for Nokia in strategic brand and intellectual property licensing agreement

20 May 2016

Roschier acts as the sole counsel to Nokia in a licensing deal that will see the NOKIA brand return to the mobile phone and tablet markets on a global basis.

Under a strategic agreement covering branding rights and intellectual property licensing, Nokia Technologies will enter into an exclusive global license with HMD global to create Nokia-branded mobile phones and tablets for the next ten years.

"Due to its scale, complexity and the associated brand values, the Nokia brand deal is globally unique," says Mikko Manner, the Nokia-responsible partner at Roschier. "Engaging with Nokia in this project has been extremely challenging and rewarding. We are, as always, humbled by the trust the client has showed us and grateful for the fantastic experience alongside the Nokia team in creating an exciting new chapter for the truly iconic Nokia brand."

Roschier has been advising Nokia as the global lead IP and technology counsel throughout the company's strategic transformation process, including the divestment of its Devices & Services business to Microsoft, the combination with Alcatel-Lucent, the sale of HERE, the acquisition of Withings S.A., and now in this ground-breaking global licensing transaction.
