Our Real Estate team represented a joint venture between Tokyo Trust Capital Co., Ltd., the advisor to a Japanese investor, and Meritage Properties, a New York real estate firm, in the $54 million acquisition and $25 million related financing of 1100 G Street, NW, in Washington, D.C. This 110,000 square-foot, eleven-story office building is located in the heart of Washington, D.C.’s East End submarket and is surrounded by some of the city’s best retail and entertainment options, including the Capital One Arena. It is also conveniently located directly across from the Metro Center station. Meritage Properties and Tokyo Trust Capital plan to renovate and reposition the building.
“This investment in D.C.’s East End was a perfect opportunity for our real estate team to showcase its global strengths. We are proud of our ability and experience guiding Asian investors in their U.S. real estate investments, bridging cultural, legal and business differences in cross-border transactions,” said partner Michael Haworth.
The team was led by New York partner Michael Haworth and included Tokyo partner Yuko Ino, New York senior associate Alykhan Shivji, and New York law clerk James Tian.
