Clifford Chance advises China Southern Power Grid on acquisition of stake in Encevo, a leading utility company in Luxembourg

Leading international law firm Clifford Chance has advised China Southern Power Grid International (HK) Co., Ltd., the wholly owned investment platform of China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd. (CSG), on its acquisition of 24.92% stake in Encevo S.A., a leading energy utility company based in Luxembourg, from Ardian, a European based private equity investment house.

Encevo currently operates more than 10,000 km of transmission lines and more than 3,700 km of gas pipelines in Europe. Encevo, through its subsidiaries Creos and Enovos, is primarily engaged in electricity and gas transmission and distribution, electricity and gas supply and renewable energy business.

Headquartered in Guangzhou, CSG is one of the two state-owned companies in China that engages in power transmission, distribution and supply on a trans-regional scale. CSG covers five provinces of one million square kilometres and provides power to over 230 million people. CSG was ranked 110th in Fortune Global 500 company in 2018.

China Co-Managing Partner Terence Foo led the cross-border team together with Christian Kremer in Luxembourg. Terence said, "We are delighted to assist CSG on this milestone investment in the energy sector in Europe, and to support CSG's international expansion."
