Addleshaw Goddard's commercial and corporate teams have advised Sainsbury's on the creation of the new mobile phone network, Mobile by Sainsbury's.
Sainsbury's has teamed up with Vodafone, by way of a joint venture, to create a new mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) which will reward customer loyalty, offer great quality value-for-money mobile products and Nectar points when it launches later this summer.
Working with Sainsbury's senior legal and commercial team, Addleshaw Goddard advised on all aspects of the deal.
The Addleshaw Goddard team was led by technology, media and intellectual property partner James Whittaker with support from corporate finance partner Andrew Rosling, associate James Tatro and other experts from the firm.
Commenting on the deal, James Whittaker said: "Mobile by Sainsbury's is an exciting milestone for the retailer and brings together key strengths from Sainsbury’s and Vodafone"
This is the second time Addleshaw Goddard has advised Sainsbury's on a new business service. In June last year, Addleshaw Goddard's corporate team, led by partner Nick Pearey, advised Sainsbury's on its high profile move into e-book retailing through the purchase of HMV's majority stake in Anobii.
Addleshaw Goddard's commercial services team is made up of 22 partners, four legal directors and 70 other fee earners. Its client portfolio includes: Sainsbury's, PZ Cussons, William Hill, Harper Collins and British Gas.
