Ashurst has advised BayernLB and Commerzbank AG on the financing of the acquisition of the Schülerhilfe group by private equity firm Deutsche Beteiligungs AG (DBAG). The seller is Paragon Partners.
The Ashurst team was led by finance partner Dr Bernd Egbers. He was supported by senior associate Carsten Endres, associate Thomas Freund and paralegal Anna Zoth (all Munich). Frankfurt-based partner Heiko Penndorf advised on tax aspects of the financing.
Ashurst, particularly its Munich office, regularly acts for BayernLB in relation to acquisition financings and corporate loans. In the past year, the firm has advised Commerzbank on several transactions.
Schülerhilfe group is the largest provider of private tutoring services in Germany. Since 1974, the company has offered its services to small groups of pupils. The tutor business serves more than 75,000 pupils in 1,100 learning centres in Germany and Austria.
