DLA Piper advises Israel Chemicals Ltd. on acquisition of the P2S5 business of Thermphos International B.V.

DLA Piper has been advising Israel Chemicals Ltd. (ICL) on the acquisition of the phosphorus pentasulphide (P2S5) business from Thermphos International B.V. together with the production facility in Hürth near Cologne. The P2S5 business is being acquired by BK Giulini GmbH, a company of the ICL Group, and managed as a new business unit under the name of “P2S5”. This will become part of the worldwide P2S5 business of the Israeli corporation. Acquisition of Thermphos marks the further expansion of the ICL presence both in Europe and on the world market for specialty chemicals.

ICL is an international chemicals company and manufacturer of inorganic phosphorus chemicals, flame retarders, plasticizers, hydraulic fluids and technical grade hydrochloric acid. The Group’s most important business fields are agriculture, foodstuffs, water and special materials. In 2011, the company headquartered in Tel Aviv (Israel) generated a turnover of just under 7.1 billion U.S. dollars with some 11,000 employees.

Thermphos International B.V based in Vlissingen in the Netherlands is a chemicals company that produces phosphorus and inorganic phosphorus compounds. Additional production locations are in Europe, Asia and South America. In 2012, the company had an annual turnover of roughly 550 million euros and approximately 1,200 employees worldwide.
