Mills & Reeve, led by real estate partner Caroline Hanratty and corporate partner Chris Ross, advised the Wilmslow-based joint venture vehicle on all aspects of the deal including site acquisition, funding and the hotel franchise agreement.
The Hampton by Hilton Hotel will be developed at the Royal Docks near the ExCel Exhibition Centre. The development is a joint venture between GB and Marick Capital and will be operated under the Hilton brand.
The 214-bed hotel will be conveniently located near the exhibition centre and a short walk from the Docklands Light Railway (DLR). London City Airport is also nearby. The project is scheduled to start in January2015 and due for completion in time for Christmas 2015.
The London hotel is the third development that Mills & Reeve has worked on with GB Group in the last 12 months. In 2013, the team advised on a new Hilton hotel in Leeds and the acquisition and development of a £6 million Premier Inn in Sunderland.
Caroline Hanratty, who has worked closely with GB Group's hotels director Brandon Riley and finance director Mike Lethaby for many years, said: “We are once again delighted to advise GB Group on an exciting new hotel development.
“The Royal Docks are currently undergoing huge regeneration. The ExCel Exhibition Centre is now a leading international conference venue and the new Hampton by Hilton Hotel, with its excellent transport links, will be ideally located to capitalise on the redevelopment of the docks.”
Brandon Riley, director of hotels at GB Group, said: “This is an exciting development in one of the capital’s prime regeneration locations, and we’re delighted to be working once again with Hilton Worldwide.
“The team has worked hard to deliver this scheme in an area that looks set to become one of the most sought after locations in London. We look forward to working closely with all our partners to create a world-class hotel for business and leisure travellers.”
