International TMT law firm Olswang has advised The Seven Network (Seven), Australia’s most-watched broadcast television platform and a key business of Seven West Media, on its investment in UK scripted specialists, Slim Film + Television (Slim). This strategic investment and partnership with Slim highlights Seven's ambitions to further expand its reach and its commitment to developing its slate of innovative, high-end scripted content for international audiences.
Founded in 2011 by Simon Crawford-Collins, one of the producers behind popular shows such as Spooks, Ashes to Ashes and Hustle, Slim has produced a wide range of highly acclaimed and award-winning content and is currently developing major scripted projects for UK and international broadcasters. The partnership with Seven will allow Slim to continue its industry-leading work with the best talent. As part of Seven’s investment deal, BBC Worldwide, which held a 25% stake in Slim, is exiting the company.
Therese Hegarty, Director of Content Distribution and Rights, Seven West Media, commented: "This was a significant investment for us and we're grateful to Nick and the Olswang team for their assistance - their insight, knowledge of both the UK and international TV markets and indefatigable approach were invaluable in helping us to execute this deal."
Olswang Corporate Partner Nick Crosbie commented: "It's been a pleasure working with Seven on such an important investment, and this will not only be positive for the companies themselves, but also for international audiences eager for the highest quality scripted content. From a strategic perspective, the energy, ambition and expertise of Seven, matched with the talented team and content production nous at Slim, make this a natural fit - I'm certainly excited to see the results of this partnership, and look forward to working with both companies on future projects."
