PARTNER MOVES - Strategic lateral team hire bolsters DWF insurance practice

28 Nov 2014

Business law firm DWF has recruited a specialist catastrophic and large loss personal injury team from Greenwoods to bolster its market leading 1000-strong national insurance practice.

The five-strong team, led by director Mike Guy and partner Claire Gribben, who held the role of partner and associate partner respectively whilst at Greenwoods, and which also includes senior solicitor Louise Neesham, bring with them to DWF a number of important large and catastrophic injury cases.

Mike Guy has over 35 years’ experience in acting for insurers, advising on a range of high value personal injury, property, contractual and fire claims. For the past five years he has acted exclusively in catastrophic injury claims for leading motor insurers, with a particular interest in the neuropsychological aspects of brain injury he advises on a range of claims including head injuries, spinal and amputation.

As an expert in large loss personal injury claims Claire Gribben has over 11 years’ experience advising on claims which involve brain injury, amputations, spinal injury and fatal accidents. She also has in-depth knowledge of insurance litigation including employer’s liability, public liability, industrial disease and product liability claims. Claire qualified as a solicitor-advocate in 2005 and is also an experienced criminal advocate, with expertise in handling the defence of Health & Safety Executive prosecutions.

Senior solicitor Louise Neesham specialises in defending catastrophic personal injury claims valued in excess of £1million. Her previous experience as a claimant solicitor has provided her with useful insight into the strategies employed and the difficulties faced by the claimant throughout such claims, enabling her to focus on gaining an objective and fair result for all parties.

Glyn Jones, partner and head of catastrophic injury at DWF, commented: “Mike and his team have a first class reputation for advising on complex and high-value cases and bring with them to DWF a number of significant client matters. Their specialist expertise in brain and spinal injury cases further strengthens our national catastrophic injury and large loss practice, enabling us to continue providing a high level of service to our insurer clients across the UK.”

These appointments follow the large scale lateral hire of a 47-strong 11-partner team from Greenwoods last year, which strengthened DWF’s catastrophic and large loss personal injury and non-injury expertise in Bristol, London, Manchester and Milton Keynes.

DWF’s 1000-strong full-service national insurance team covers areas such as motor, fraud, occupational health & casualty and commercial & professional indemnity. The firm supports clients in both the public and private sectors, including some of the UK's largest and well-known insurers, adjusters and corporates, including Ageas, Aviva, Chubb, Hiscox, Inter Hannover, Markerstudy Group, QBE, RSA, Travelers and Zurich.

Mike and team join the DWF Bristol office in November.
