Kirkland & Ellis Represents Malaysian Sovereign Fund in its Lead Investment in the Series B Fundraising of WeLab

Kirkland & Ellis represents a Malaysian sovereign fund (as lead investor) in the US$160 million Series B fundraising of WeLab, operator of Wolaidai, one of China’s largest mobile lending platforms and WeLend.hk, Hong Kong’s leading online lending platform.  The Malaysian sovereign fund led a consortium of investors which includes, among others, ING Bank and state-owned Guangdong Technology Financial Group.  The investment in WeLab represents the Malaysian sovereign fund’s first investment in China’s financial technology (fintech) sector.

Hengeler Mueller advises Siemens on spin-off to Siemens Healthcare GmbH

Siemens Aktiengesellschaft will transfer, in particular, pension liabilities to former employees of the Health Care business and various participations in companies
active in the Health Care business to its wholly owned subsidiary Siemens Healthcare GmbH by way of spin-off. The underlying spin-off and takeover agreement required was approved by the Annual General Meeting of Siemens Aktiengesellschaft on 26 January 2016.

Osborne Clarke has advised UK NewVoiceMedia on its £30m Series F round of funding.

A leading global provider of cloud technology which helps businesses sell more, serve better and grow faster, NewVoiceMedia has secured funding from a number of investors including Salesforce Ventures, Salesforce’s global corporate investment group and new investor BGF Ventures as well as from existing shareholders Technology Crossover Ventures (TCV), Bessemer Venture Partners (BVP), Highland Capital Partners Europe and Eden Ventures.

Evonik Venture Capital: Investment in Finnish Growth Company Synoste

We assisted Evonik Venture Capital, a corporate venture arm of Evonik Industries AG, one of the world’s leading providers of specialty chemicals, in an investment in Finnish growth company Synoste. Synoste is a Finnish medical device company that is developing a next-generation of patient friendly implements for the correction of skeletal deformations. Synoste’s proprietary technology will act as a platform for a range of long and short bone, spinal, and craniomaxilofacial applications providing solutions for millions of patients and their families across the globe.

LocalTapiola Group: Investment in a Major Shopping Centre Project in Jyväskylä

We advised companies belonging to the Local Tapiola Group in their EUR 70 million investment in the construction of the Seppä shopping centre in Jyväskylä. The shopping centre will be developed by Skanska Talonrakennus Oy for a contract value of approximately EUR 57 million. The shopping centre will be constructed in conjunction with the Prisma Centre in Jyväskylä and is expected to be completed in September 2017.

Osborne Clarke has advised Founders Factory Limited on a further equity investment by Guardian Media Group plc.

Osborne Clarke advised Founders Factory on its initial investment by Holtzbrinck Publishing Group, in June 2015.

Founders Factory is an ambitious approach to early stage innovation and investing launched by Brent Hoberman, Henry Lane Fox and the team from Founders Forum.

The Osborne Clarke team that advised on the investment was led by Partner Mathias Loertscher, who was assisted by Associate William Nicholson.

Macfarlanes acts for Synova Capital on raising Synova Capital Fund III

Macfarlanes has advised long standing client Synova Capital on the raising of its third fund, which has now held a final closing at its hard cap of £250m.

This new fund will continue Synova Capital’s investment strategy of investing between £10m and £30m in UK companies operating in attractive niches with significant opportunities for earnings growth and value creation.

The Macfarlanes team was led by funds partner Christopher Good, with senior solicitor Jagdip Gujral also advising.

Bird & Bird represents the E-Sport team Astralis

The Danish e-sport team, Astralis Esport, has secured an investment from the venture capital fund, Sunstone Capital, and the Danish business angel, Tommy Ahlers. Bird & Bird represented Astralis Esport in the negotiations.

Sunstone Capital and Tommy Ahlers have decided to invest more than a million Danish kroner in Astralis Esport, which operates one of the world's best Counter-Strike teams. Astralis participates in some of the world's biggest Counter-Strike tournaments and they are followed closely by more than 300,000 people on social media.

Linklaters advises AustralianSuper on its acquisition of the UK Government’s interest in major Central London development site, King’s Cross

Linklaters has advised AustralianSuper on its acquisition of a further 42% interest in a development project at King’s Cross. This transaction follows AustralianSuper’s initial acquisition of a 25% interest in April 2015.

In the most recent acquisition, the sellers were the UK Government (through its subsidiary London and Continental Railways) as to 36.5% and DHL (owned by Deutsche Post) as to 6%.
