Clifford Chance advises Actis on the acquisition of a significant stake in Medis Group

Leading international law firm Clifford Chance has advised Actis, leading growth market investor, on significant stake investment in Medis Group.

Medis is a prominent branded generic pharmaceuticals business in Tunisia and Algeria. Actis acquired a meaningful stake in the business from Africinvest, one of the key Pan African Mid Cap PE players, and from the founding Boujbel family.

Primavera and Ant Financial to Invest in Yum China

The Firm is representing Primavera Capital Group and Ant Financial Services Group in connection the announced total investment of $460 million in Yum China Holdings Inc. (“Yum China”), concurrent with the completion of Yum China’s spinoff from Yum! Brands, Inc (NYSE: YUM). The spinoff and concurrent completion of the investment are expected to occur on October 31, 2016, with Yum China to commence trading on the NYSE as an independent company on November 1, 2016 under the ticker symbol “YUMC.”

EDF acquires Studsvik’s nuclear waste treatment business

EDF Développement Environnement SA, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the French Government controlled power company EDF SA, has signed an agreement with Studsvik AB (publ) to acquire Studsvik’s nuclear waste treatment business and facilities in Sweden and the UK. Completion of the transaction is conditioned upon necessary permits and approvals being granted by the Swedish Government and other relevant authorities. As part of the transaction, EDF and Studsvik have agreed to collaborate in the areas of nuclear decommissioning and waste management.

Homburger advised Sensirion in the sale of its pressure sensor business to an international buyer

August 31, 2016, Sensirion AG, a Swiss leading sensor manufacturer, has sold its digital barometric absolute pressure sensor business to an international sensor company. The sale included all related intellectual property rights and other assets located in Switzerland and Taiwan.

Weil Advises KKR on Investment in Shipping Loans and Establishment of a New Shipping Portfolio Management Company

Weil is representing KKR Credit in relation to an agreement to invest in a $1.5 billion portfolio of shipping loans to be sold by Nord/LB and the simultaneous creation of a shipping portfolio management company by KKR Credit and a sovereign wealth fund that is expected to co-invest in the transaction. The transaction is expected to be structured as a securitization with KKR Credit, the sovereign wealth fund and Nord/LB participating as investors.

International technology, media and telecoms law firm Olswang has advised German media group Burda on its acquisition of a significant minority stake in Notonthehighstreet.com, one of the UK’s fastest-growing online retailers. The Series E funding round, raising £21 million, was led by Burda, with support from Notonthehighstreet.com's existing investors, including Industry Ventures, Eight Roads and Index Ventures.

This deal results from a strategic partnership between Costa Cruises and San Giorgio del Porto, owner of Chantier Naval de Marseille. This agreement aims to develop a cruise ship repair and conversion international center, improving technology and boosting operational efficiency of Chantier Naval de Marseille thanks to a €10 million initial investment.
